- How long can they keep the pressure up on Tessa Jowell before it starts to look personally vindictive? How long before she does a Cherie Blair style emotional press conference, with the hint of a tear in her eye and yet more protestations of an innocence born of the least communicative marriage in the country? How long - if what she claims is true - before said marriage ends? After all, who'd want to be married to someone who keeps £344,000 gifts from mysterious strangers a secret? Reminds me of that God-awful Indecent Proposal flick... Just what was it that Tessa's hubby had to do to get that cash again?

If he told Tessa Jowell eventually about the "gift' in 2004, as we are supposed to believe, did he tell her he had forgotten where it had come from? Surely Tessa Jowell knows who gave it him?
And he declared it as income to the Inland Revenue, Income from where?
Apparantly if I am caught with more than £1000 by a policeman and cannot prove where it came from it can be seized. So what about $600000 that you seem to have been 'given' and has travelled and all around the world to disguise its origin and thats fine.

Not to mention the wonderful arguments from Neil Harding of the Brighton Regency Labour blog about mysterious large sums of money:
"A man found with 10,000 in cash late at night with no reasonable explanation DESERVES prosecution regardless of whether the police can actually PROVE it is the result of wrongdoing."
This is apparently all part of the "respect" drive. So when's the guy getting banged up, eh?
