He's that nice one, y'know, talks economics. Used to be an MEP. Not bald.
TBH, I know as much about him as Oaten, which was very little before the Lib Dem bloggers started talking about him. There are a lot of LibDem bloggers out there, it's quite scary, going to have to reorganise the blogroll. Again. Apparently he worked in industry and is a respected economist. Featherstone likes him. More if I can be arsed to look into it...
I wouldn't bother if I were you. Menzies has got it in the bag.
Makes sense: have a moderately respectable interim leader to take all the flak of near-inevitable poor showings in local and European elections until the next general election, when the Lib Dems will certainly lose a bunch of seats to the Tories. Then stab Menzies in the back and get in some kind of bland no-mark who no one's ever heard of with a load of grand promises of revitalising the party upon which they can't possibly deliver, followed by a continued decline to around 35 MPs, then stagnate.
Official prediction. Hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it.
I suspect, unfortunately, that you're right. Ming I don't think will actually have the impetus to take them forward, and, although I hate to say it, is Scottish, which will lose English shire support - Kennedy got past that, just, because he's a nice "normal" (MP at 23, degree in politics, studying for an MP in politics in the US, no life outside of politics) bloke. Ming is a patrician.
They need someone that can appeal to and keep Labour defectors, someone who can also take on Brown and win (if Brown becomes NuLab leader). Liberal Review is doing a pretty good daily blog round up of the LibDemmers, today is mostly on Who-hne, a name I like for now...
