- Good grief, it really is all change now that Cameron's been named Tory leader. According to the Guardian, there's now "speculation that William Hague will make a return to frontline politics and a job as foreign secretary".
I wonder what Jack Straw has to say about that?

That's not new, you've just not been paying attention, Hague's return is one of the things most of us were expecting.
I'm scared for Cameron, he's too damned new, becoming leader too early nearly killed Hague's career, and given his obvious talents (although dubious ideas) that's a shame. Much as I hate to admit it, we need some sort of Tory party, might as well be run by compentents. Besides, Hague has probably learnt from his mistakes, so can stop Cameron from making them.
Let's face it, rather them than 4 more years of authoritarian NuLab. It so hurts me to say that.
*ahem* Missing "Shadow"...
I've been proofing and subbing all day, so I'm amazed I can still be that pedantic, but still...
Hague working Cameron from behind the curtains could work. It all depends on whether the Davis lot and the nuttier right-wingers can avoid infighting. Even non-public bitching could tear them apart again. Either they need unity at all costs, or they need actually to split the party in two. Otherwise they're fucked.
Hell, they're probably fucked anyway... It would be nice to have a proper opposition for a change though.
Oh, yeah, I see what you mean. d'oh!
I really need to finish that long drafted article about the future of the Tories, I've been collecting links for it for ages. It's not the right wingers they need to dump, it's the authoritarians, who are largely lumped together. But yeah, arguing for a split was the basic point of the thing. It was supposed to be a follow up to this, especially given Gary's thought out response, but, well, y'know what it's like...
Maybe if I split it up into separate bits that might work? Hmm...
I rarely - if ever - plan out blog posts, so can be of no assistance on that one, I'm afraid. I tend to just sit down and type until I'm finished...
If you've been pissing around with it for a while, might be time to start afresh? Just type, and see what you come up with.
I've been proofing and subbing all day, so I'm amazed I can still be that pedantic, but still...
Surely that makes you more likely to be stuck in pedantic mode? Or am I just being picky?
Oddly, with all the talk of how Cameron is the new Blair (hello, Private Eye), Jonathan Freedland reckons he's the new Bush...
Hague was always going to come back, he's too bright and ambitious not to (at least, when he's acting like a politician rather than pretending to be your friendly neighbourhood binge drinker; honestly, if he did the eight-pints-and-baseball-cap thing today, they'd probably ASBO him). IDS on the other hand...
