Given that this chap has merely been charged, it may well be that there is no good evidence, and this is just a vindictive, but quite possibly successful, attempt to blacken his name. Time will hopefully tell.
Sorry to get all pedantic on you, but Colin Inglis (as far as I know) is not an ex-police officer, but is a councillor who was head of the local police authority.
But the point made, that the police are at least as fallible as the rest of us, is obviously spot on (not least in relation to previous investigations regarding abuse in care homes, where their policy of "trawling" has been seriously questioned).
Quinn - no worries. You're now the second person to say that. I will hold my hands up and admit ignorance on this one - I had assumed one had to be a policeman to be chairman of a police authority. After all, the police are in the best position to know how to run the police, aren't they...
Well, one would have thought so, but then that would require some common sense from politicians.
Although, let's face it, the government and the police have got their hands in each other's pockets, strenuously playing with the balls, anyway...

Not really, in my opinion elected representatives are the right people to be overseeing the police and making sure they don't get out of hand. They then appoint Cheif Constables to do the real running, the authority oversses them.
Anything else would amount to, well, a police state ;-)
