Reader vote excitement*!
*may actually mean mind-numbing tedium
Being, as I am, currently drunk and reading blogs on a crappy computer with the slowest internet connection I've had the misfortune of experiencing since about 1997, I've realised something irritating about my very own blog (other than the incompetence, ill-formed opinions and unoriginal invective, naturally).
To wit: clicking the comments link, then waiting for the page to load, then clicking again before being able to leave a comment can be fucking dull.
So, I'm putting it to a vote - who wants me to change the comments thing to one of those little pop-up window jobbies?
As this is Britain, which ever option ("pop-up" or "as is") gets 22% of the votes will win. Or first past the post, I dunno. And I may change my mind later.
Did I mention I was drunk?

Ah, the hazards of drunkblogging...
You wouldn't want to offend any particular commenting system, though. In the interest of promoting multi-commentism, I vote that you use *all* of the major comment systems.
Good luck getting the medievalist bastards who prefer the old system to mix with the progressive pop-up commenters, though. Integration and assimilation are worthy goals, but they're damned difficult to achieve.
22% is only ever a mandate for 'as is', and indicates a wish for the status quo - but with reduced authority for the blogger.
If the pop-ups get 22% you should countermand this by changing the boundaries of your browser window forthwith.
(I know this analogy doesn't really work, but I'm somewhat fed up with working on my blasted thesis. It being 5:30 and thus now Saturday morning. chiz chiz, moan drone, ect ect.)
I'm for the "status quo" as long as the comments remain the same style, but pop-up with a picture of them two blokes (the one with the long hair and the other balding one)who play in the group!
(That is what you weren't talking about, wasn't it?)
((booze....who needs it?))
I vote for keeping it the same way.
All too often, I can't get pop-ups to work with my browser because of my pop-up protection.
Your site works well as it is, you should keep it that way.
Deliberate Chaos
Keep it as it is, definately. The pop up ones really really really irritate me.
The other day, after I consumed an entire bottle of Rose, I decided to liveblog Question of Security in all its awful detail...
Realising how daft that was, the post was swiftly deleted. Hurrah!
I am a pop-up freak when it comes to commenting, so... pop them up!
What, you don't need the booze to hallucinate baldy/hairy ageing rockers?
And there I was, thinking I had the DTs...
[shakes appropriately]
Some of the greatest entries I've ever read were drunken posts.
And I vote for pop-ups. The little pop-up window doesn't take as long to load as an entire page when on a slow connection.
Pop-ups cannot be enlarged on my PC, and lately (even with my glasses) I find them increasingly hard to read. Keep the system as is.
Will drunk blogging be followed by hangover blogging? Enquiring minds want to know!
Nothing quite like that feeling of having left your mind under the bar stool while composing witty epithets vaguely related to the day’s news.
Not sure I have an opinion, Nosey. I use the 'traditional' method for my comments, but I have HaloScan installed just for TrackBack. As long as you can keep the permalink so I can linbk to specific articles, I don't mind.
I cant get drunk any more, for medical reasons, so all my posts are sober, sensible, clearly thought out and immensely dull. Anyway, how much of the MSM do you think is written with a clear head and fragrant breath?
Keep it the same - this way when we use the RSS feeds all the comments come up immidiately below the Post.
No need for double clicking :)
Prefer this manner to be honest.
pop-ups.
The current system for posting comments is rather inefficient and poorly designed
Could I make a late suggestion for having the links from the main page open in a new window?
Or not...
Liss - if I knew how to, possibly - my HTML leaves a lot to be desired... Best option for reading blogs is Firefox though - you can have the Sage RSS reader running in a sidebar, umpteen blogs open in tabs, and simply middle click to open links in new tabs. Sorted.
Everyone else - there seems to be a mix. How about I whack Haloscan pop-ups on for those who want them and have two lots of comments? Excitement!
Meh... Technical issues bore me.
Whst, you want me to wrest myself, kicking and screaming, from the jaws of Microsoft???
I concede that your suggestion is probably the most sensible one. However, if you did want to know how to do it, the forum tells me that:
"To get a link to open in a new browser window, what you do is add the target="_blank" attribute to your link tag."
I learn something every day... [sigh]
I use Opera, don't we singers get a look in?
