The eroding of rights in the UK is getting more and more difficult to swallow.I now live in Warsaw where the weather's no better but at least we're not likely to get shot while wearing a winter coat.
I've been globe trotting since the end of June this year and the 7th July bombings whilst I was in Canada. So I've been wondering what the fuck is going on back in old Blighty reading the various news sources via professional hacks and political blogs.
I had the (mis-)fortune to go through US immigration for my short stay in Hawaii and all I can say is how utterly paranoid the immigration officers were, checking absolutely everything and everyone.
But the ultimate irony is that landing at Singapore, née "Disneyland with a Death Penalty" there was none of this edgyness. My current stop in Hong Kong, women can go into the Kowloon Islamic Centre in the middle of urban Hong Kong, head to toe in their black abayas and not even get the slightest of suspicious glance.
News of the week (from a Sino-centric view anyway) is that mainland China invited all 60 members of HK's legislature, including 25 pro-Democracy, one of who is the first person in a very long time to have been able to shout: "Long live democracy! Long live the people!"... in the mainland, in public, without getting arrested.
I will have to remind myself my intended purchase of a skull cap to try and "blend in" whilst in Dubai later this year, might need to be ditched before landing back in the UK...
