Wembley Stadium - I mean, why bother, really?
Still, good to see it's not just the Scottish parliament with a dodgy roof that could collapse at any moment, ensuring that millions of pounds of public money have been wasted... And we're going to get the Olympic village finished on time? Yeah, right...

Ah, how refreshing, a fellow cynic - just bung New labour a few million in a brown envelope and it will happen overnight...
OK, I was going to comment before, but held back. Not this time.
Things get built, kinks get discovered, kinks get sorted. Usually. It's right to pick up on the kinks, but if you don't follow up on the sorting, you risk propagating the kind of cynicism that stops things being done in the first place.
Everything new entails uncertainty and risk. Because every building - good and bad - is unique and untried, there's uncertainty and risk.
The beam that swung loose from the roof of the debating chamber of the Scottish Parliament building has been taken away for testing. This beam was designed to be retained by a stainless steel threaded bolt and two nuts. The discoveries so far are that, with this beam, one threaded nut was missing and one was damaged during installation. This second nut failed and sheared off, allowing the beam to swing free.
Perhaps there should have been more redundancy in the design. Perhaps there should have been more care during installation. But no one has been hurt and I'm fairly confident that the roof will be fixed. This sort of thing can happen when you try to do things that haven't been done before.
Could make some of the events more interesting; sprinters having to dodge falling parts of the stadium as they run, gymnasts performing their feats across dozens of scaffolding poles rather than just one pair of parallel bars, pole vaulters giving people lifts to the stands since the stairs haven't been finished yet etc.
Be more positive. It will probably be a disaster, but for us outside London it will be great to watch!
Hmmm... Sort of an Olympic obstacle course - now that could be interesting!
